Hackers in Mumbai Demand Ransom in Bitcoin From Users of Porn Sites

A number of hackers in Mumbai city are reportedly creating forged domains and as soon as you try and access the porn site, they terrorize and force you into paying them in Bitcoin. Further, if you deny the payment they present you with the acclamations of having access to your personal data. The person feels endangered and simply gives up to their trap.

A handful of cases have recently come up to the ‘Maharashtra Cyber Crime Branch’ wherein, people have complained against such threats posed by the hackers. People have actually received e-mails from these cyberpunks, who thereby terrorize them regarding misuse of their photographs, videos, computer systems, etc.

Owing to the above incidents, the Cyber Cops have issued ‘strict warnings’ as to not fall for any of these frauds. They have assured the public that the hackers do not actually possess any such information and are merely trying to threaten them. They are looking into the matter with complete force and would soon be able to find a way out.

Citing Bal Singh Rajput, the Superintendent of Police (cyber crime), “This is a trap laid for innocent people. In reality, they [hackers] don’t really have pictures or videos of people. We’re investigating the issue.”

This Wednesday, another similar case was lodged with the Bhoiwada Police. The petitioner mentioned that he was terrorized by a hacker through the means of an e-mail. He claims that he received the email after creating an account on a paid porn website. The scammers not only made a bid of 3 lakh rupees in Bitcoin but also threatened him about leaking his personal data and screenshots of him watching porn films.

Taking into consideration, the cybercrime branch has made sincere appeals to the people asking them not to share any personal details and data with any unauthorised person or website.

Some police officials have come to the conclusion that all these activities are merely a means to increase the market value of Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies and nothing more. However, they would investigate such websites and would obtain the information regarding the hackers soon.
