German football club Hamburger Sport-Verein e.V., popularly known as Hamburger SV or HSV, has collaborated with a cryptocurrency company called NAGA. The club’s history on the field has not been particularly great, as it was downgraded to Bundesliga’s second grade after the 2017-2018 season. However, the team is anticipating some good luck as they partner up with NAGA for the new 2018-2019 season.
As the only sponsor for the team, NAGA will get massively featured in all of HSV’s products. In addition to jerseys, NAGA’s logo will find itself on the statistics and scorekeeping board as well.
NAGA is a Hamburg-based globally oriented blockchain company. According to their website, NGC, their crypto coin is a “decentralized cryptocurrency for trading and investing in financial markets, virtual goods, and cryptocurrencies”.
Going by what both the parties have to say about the partnership, their association was formed with far-reaching interests beyond financial or marketing sponsorship. Alexander Braune, the head of Business Development said, “Together we want to move towards new goals. With a complete restart, HSV is creating the basis for successfully completing the new season – via a strategic approach that we, as an innovative company, absolutely share in the ethos of.”
With only positive things to say about the alliance with a cryptocurrency company, senior director of HSV, Johannes Haupt was quoted as saying, “We are delighted to have won over an innovative new partner from a dynamic and promising industry for HSV. We have developed a comprehensive package of services tailored to the company’s objectives, with a special focus on digital communication, enabling exciting projects along the path of our long-term cooperation. We are convinced that in the course of this partnership, both sides won’t only benefit from each other, but will also be able to learn from each other.”
After sports teams like Wolverhampton Wanderers, an English Premier League team and the basketball teams Sacramento Kings and Dallas Mavericks, Hamburger SV is the first football team to get sponsored by a crypto firm, apart from the football legend Ronaldinho, who is reportedly involved in a cryptocurrency project.
